“Excellence is a continuous process and not an accident.”
These wise words were spoken by the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who passed away the evening of July 27th, 2015. A career scientist turned politician, Kalam will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
He also was a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.
As India mourns over the loss of a former president, news sources and social media sites are overflowing with tributes to Kalam.
Many of these thoughtful tributes can be found here.
The Dalai Lama even had more than a few words to say about his late friend.
I am very sad to learn of the sudden passing away of our former President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam yesterday evening. This is an irreparable loss. He was not only a great scientist, educationist and statesman, but also above all a real gentleman.
Over the years I had the opportunity to meet and interact with him on many occasions and always admired his down to earth simplicity and humility. I used to enjoy our discussions on a wide range of subjects of common interest, but mainly concerned with science, spirituality and education.
I offer my condolences and prayers to his family and the people of India at this sad time.
As for mygooi, we will honor Kalam’s life by following his wise advise to have a single-minded devotion to our goal in order to succeed in our mission. We will not allow problems to defeat us. We will meet difficulties head-on because they are necessary to enjoy success, and we will continue to dream big so that our dreams can come true.
