mygooi sponsored the competition among 21 students taking interactive design with Cyndi Wiley, assistant professor of art and design at the Des Moines school and winner of a 2014-15 professional development award provided by The Principal Financial Group. Wiley said the competition fit seamlessly with her program in Interactive Media Technology and Human Computer Interaction, which is being funded, in part, by the award.

The free gooisocial app is business focused and driven by consumers. It does not include liking or a skewed fan base but has a gooi rating scale that allows local businesses to compete with large corporations.

“It’s an interactive innovative app that rewards businesses for good service, and users for their feedback,” said mygooi founder and president Jay Namboor. “For businesses, gooisocial is a customizable, all-inclusive platform. It grows as their needs, products and fan base grow. This is the app that everyone will want to download.”

“We chose Ashley because we felt she took the most innovative approach in creating a completely new design,” said digital media specialist Kate Chamberlin, part of mygooi’s three-judge panel for the competition. “We also felt she captured and focused on the most important aspects of gooisocial, such as the proximity-based news feed and social activity.”

The other judges were brand marketing manager Jaclyn Franchetti and graphic designer Gabby Gaulke.

“We were really impressed with the Grand View University graphic design program and the students we worked with,” said Namboor. “They were professional, inquisitive and many of them put great effort into their app designs. We feel this relationship between mygooi and Grand View will continue to grow.”

Chamberlin said mygooi challenged the students to create a user interface (UI) that maintains the consistency of the app’s theme and purpose. “We made a presentation about gooisocial, walking them through each screen and the app’s functionality. Then we looked for the most innovative design.”

Competition guidelines said the UI had to be easy to navigate for all ages, but could be focused on males and females ages 20 through 40.

mygooi™ Sponsors Design Competition

Students to create user interfaces for gooisocial mobile app

DES MOINES, Iowa (PRWEB) December 19, 2014

Design students at Grand View University are being challenged to bring their fresh ideas to the business screen of mygooi’s gooisocial application, the company said. It is sponsoring a competition, which will take place the week of Jan. 12, with the winner receiving a gift card and recognition for the accomplishment.

The students are taking interactive design with Cyndi Wiley, assistant professor of art and design at the Des Moines school and winner of a 2014-15 professional development award provided by The Principal Financial Group. Wiley said the competition fits with her development of a program in Interactive Media Technology and Human Computer Interaction which is being funded, in part, by the award.

mygooi founder and president Jay Namboor said, “We are challenging the students to create a user interface (UI) that maintains the consistency of the app’s theme and purpose, using the skills they’ve learned in all their design classes. We’ll make a presentation about gooisocial, walking them through each screen and the app’s functionality. They will compete against each other in creating the most innovative UI design.

“On the last day of the competition, students will present their designs to professor Wiley and a team from mygooi. We’re looking for a winning UI design we can use partially or completely in the app. We’ll also encourage all participants to feature these designs in their portfolios and on their resumes.”

The free gooisocial app is business focused and driven by consumers. It does not include liking, friending or a skewed fan base but has a gooi rating scale that allows local businesses to compete with large corporations.
“It’s an interactive innovative app that rewards businesses for good service, and users for their feedback,” said Namboor. “gooisocial is a customizable, all-inclusive platform for businesses. It grows as their needs, products and fan base grow. This is the app that everyone will want to download.”

The UI is to be easy to navigate for all ages, but can be focused on males and females ages 20 through 40, according to the competition guidelines. The students must take into consideration mygooi’s corporate colors, fonts and the overall look of the current app screens.

“We want students to use their creativity to think outside the box!” added Namboor.

Global Director for gooisocial Business Development Named

mygooi™ said it has named Ron Aylward to be global director of business development for its gooisocial media platform.

“We’re pleased to be able to draw on Ron’s strong international background,” said CEO Paul N. Greenwood, noting Aylward was most recently director of international franchise operations for health-and-wellness product retailer GNC Holdings.

“Our initial focus will be the SMB market in Latin America,” said Aylward. “The gooisocial media app is an incredibly useful tool for small and medium businesses to connect with customers. It is a steadily improving, business to business to customer tool, which develops a network that builds customer awareness and involvement.

“Businesses and customers can work closely together using gooisocial. It’s a great way for a customer who needs a product or service to connect with a business that has good reviews from trusted sources. It saves them time and effort, and they can negotiate right on their smart devices. Plus businesses can get immediate feedback on how well they’re doing, which gives them the opportunity to enhance performance.”

Greenwood noted that mygooi is developing exciting features it will be adding to the gooisocial platform over the next few months.

Aylward, who will be based in Florida, said he plans to have an advisory board in place by the end of the year, with members representing Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America. “The board will provide insights on how to serve the region better,” he said, adding that once Latin American operations are in place, he will be looking to opportunities in Asia’s SMB market.

Aylward led specialty retailer Starbucks Coffee Company’s international license division as vice president of operations and was regional director for chocolate-maker Godiva’s Midwest division before going to GNC.
